When the 5th pandemic wave raged the town leaving most of us in WFH mode, the frequency of cooking at home is more than ever. Take this as a chance to polish your culinary skills and enjoy the art of cooking. Here's a simple Vietnamese home cooking recipe for the newbies.
Gỏi Cuốn means rice paper salad rolls and it is one of the most iconic and well-known dishes of Vietnam. It can be a snack or a light meal that is super nutritious and healthy as it's loaded with fresh veggies, herbs and protein. The fillings combination are countless, you can choose your favorite protein based on your preferences. Or, you could simply follow our recipe below to make a traditional one.

Ingredients
Rice paper sheet
Rice vermicelli
Lettuce
Herbs of your choice (suggested to have mint, cilantro and Chinese chives)
Pork belly
Shrimp (white shrimp or tiger shrimp)
You could get most of the ingredients in a Chinese supermarket or local wet market.
Steps
Preparation Work
Boil the pork belly and shrimp to well done and cut the pork belly into thin slices after cooling down
Cook the rice vermicelli according to the package's instruction, then rinse and drain to cool
Wash the lettuce and herbs and dry them thoroughly
Prepare a bowl of lukewarm drinking water
Assemble
Quickly dip the rice paper into water (make sure don't dip it too long, or else the rice paper will get too soggy and sticky)
First, add a thin layer of cooked rice vermicelli at the bottom of the rice paper
Second, add lettuce and herbs on top of the rice vermicelli
Finally, add a row of pork belly slices and shrimp up against the rice vermicelli
Time to Wrap
Keep all ingredients with similar length and width
Fold the left and right sides of the rice paper inwards
Give a little pressure and roll it upwards from the bottom till the end
We're done!
